Last week something extraordinary happened!!! A man named Jose is a recipient of a free wheelchair through the program that the church partners with Free Wheelchair Mission. Every 6 months to a year, he contacts Clever because he uses his wheelchair SO much that the tires wear to basically nothing and he needs them replaced. Jose works in one of the major food markets in Lima. Well recently when Clever spoke to him, he asked what the condition was of his entire wheelchair. Quickly Clever realized this man not only needed new tires but a whole new wheelchair. Jose’s busiest day of the week working is Saturday so he was not able to come and get his knew wheelchair. So, he sent his brother to get it AND THIS is where the story gets interesting. His brother Alberto came to the church during our regular Saturday distribution. He learned how to care for the wheelchair, and heard about how this gift is a gift from God . The message of Jesus was also shared and he raised his hand to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
You might think that is the end of the story but IT ISN’T!!! Apparently, ALL week Alberto had the same dream every single night. It was someone handing him a lit candle and telling him to come out of the darkness and into the light. He had NO IDEA what that meant and he felt confused and troubled. He shared this with his brother Jose and asked if he knew someone at the church he could talk to. Clever’s name came to mind, so he gave Alberto Clever’s number.
On Friday afternoon, Clever received a call from Alberto telling him what had happened and asking him for help. For a seasoned believer this dream may be clear but for Alberto, he was very confused. With joy, Clever was able to explain to Alberto that the dream was God calling him to be in communion with him! Clever invited him to church and encouraged him to start reading the bible. We are so very excited to watch what God has in store for Alberto. Will you be praying for him too? Pray for him to do as God said, to leave the darkness behind and follow Him into the light. Wow! Isn’t our Father just so amazing?
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
”
Much like what we were able to experience on a personal level helping Alberto understand God’s love for him and his desire to be in fellowship with him always; we continue to strive to bring more people to the feet of Jesus any way we can.
Over the past few years, Clever has had the opportunity to participate in trainings and conferences through CAFO (Christian Alliance For Orphans) to further learn how we can teach others about the need, and HOW to reach children in vulnerable situations. This past year, CAFO has added the category of children with disabilities into their “vulnerable children” definition. In an event earlier this year that we were a part of helping organize , Clever was able to share what we are learning and doing to serve people with disabilities in our church and in the community. The director of CAFO, who came to the event here in Lima, was so moved by what Clever shared that he invited him to share what we have learned in the annual CAFO conference held in Nashville, TN in September of this year!!! This conference is a global conference where people all around the world gather both in person and virtually to learn about how to engage others in this work of caring for vulnerable children. It was such an honor to be able to share what God is teaching us in how the local church can impact the lives of every individual who comes through the church doors in a way that is not seen in society!
The great news is that the follow up to this event is a series of online workshops to further talk about serving children with disabilities into the church! Clever will be sharing in these workshops more of what we have learned here.
